The man accused of abandoning his dog on the side of the road in Scituate turned himself into police on Thursday.

An arrest warrant was issued last week for Richard Lombardi of Cranston, who allegedly abandoned his 7-year-old pit bull mix on Nipmuc Road.

Residents in the area found the dog named Clyde, locked in an animal carrier at a Scituate cemetery in below freezing temperatures. A resident took Clyde to their home for food and shelter.

Scituate police told NBC 10 Lombardi surrendered himself on Thursday and was later arraigned.

A not guilty plea was entered on his behalf.

While the resident who took Clyde in offered to foster him , Animal Control had to take custody of him due to the criminal charges against Lombardi.

Clyde is currently in foster care.
