Breeze Airways is looking for pilots, flight attendants, mechanics and more as it tries to staff up its new Rhode Island crew base.

Breeze's new crew base at T.F. Green International Airport in Warwick opens March 29, and will house Breeze planes overnight, rather than having aircraft flying in and out. Plans for the operations hub were announced back in August.

T.F. Green will be Breeze's seventh crew base.

"As we grow, we're turning [T.F. Green Airport] into a base," said Gareth Edmondson-Jones, Breeze's communications director. "The fact that we're turning Providence into a base is a huge vote of confidence. We've been flying to [T.F. Green] for a few years now and it wouldn't be becoming a base if it wasn't popular, and successful and welcomed by the community."

Breeze wants to hire up to 250 positions for the hub over the next ten to 12 years. Edmondson-Jones says 50 of those will hopefully be filled by the time the hub opens.

The Rhode Island Commerce Corporation approved tax credits for Breeze in October, so long as Breeze meets the requirements for jobs created through the new T.F. Green base. Those credits are through the state's Qualified Jobs Tax Credit program and can be applied to 116 eligible jobs.

Breeze told NBC 10 News Thursday it's encouraging Ocean State residents to apply.

"We would love to get a local team there, or even have people come back to Rhode Island for these positions," said Edmondson-Jones. "We're growing a home [at TF Green Airport], and who better to work there than people who call Providence home?"

The newly-posted positions come as Breeze gets ready to launch several new destinations out of TF Green to places like Los Angeles, Tampa and Cincinnati. Average annual pay for the jobs is $90,000, per a company news release.

"We pay competitive. Breeze is a start-up and we're not a major carrier so we can't compete with the [Delta, United, and Southwest] on everything, but absolutely [our salaries] are competitive rates," said Edmonson-Jones. "All of these new routes are starting in the next few months and with that, there will be more guests, more planes there, so yeah we need to build our team in Providence."
