A Providence man is sharing his terrifying account of when he says someone broke into his home Sunday night and didn't want to leave.

Greg Tomamicho told NBC 10 a man broke into his home on Barnes Street twice before police moved in to de-escalate the situation.

Tomamicho said he was going to bed on Sunday night when he heard a loud bang. If that didn't get Tomamicho's attention, his partner did.

"I heard a screaming, 'There's somebody in the house, there's somebody in the house," said Tomamicho.

"We have two dogs and they were both going nuts, I mean they were terrified," he added.

Tomamicho flew done the stairs.

"That's when I saw he was in there, kind of laying here on the floor," Tomamicho said.

The bang was the guy knocking down the back door.

Tomamicho described the person as a young Black man wearing a black suit coat and burgundy pants. He said the man seemed a bit out of it.

"We're saying, 'Get out of here, get out of here.' And he's telling us he wants to get out of the rain, so we said, 'You can't be here.' We get him to go outside and I locked the door," recalled Tomamicho.

Tomamicho and his partner were able to get him outside to their back porch while they called the police, but the guy wanted back in.

"A number of minutes later I look and see him kind of rearing for the door. He knocks it in again with his shoulder and he's back in the house," Tomamicho said.

"He's kind of coming this way, and I'm keep backing up, backing up and he's saying, 'I don't want to hurt you,'" he said.

At that moment, Providence police moved in.

"They kind of take over and tell him to get down," recalled Tomamicho. "So he wasn't responding to police and they fired the taser twice into him but he had a jacket on, so it didn't really get him down initially. Then I think they got him down to the ground and handcuffed him."

"I thought it was a home invasion," Tomamicho added. "It was pretty terrifying and in hindsight, I see that he must have some issues."

NBC 10 reached out to Providence police for more information.
