The Cranston Police Department has identified the driver who was killed after crashing into a home on Wednesday.

Police responded around 9:00 p.m. to 712 Dyer Avenue and found a white SUV that had slammed into the side of a home.

The victim was identified as 73-year-old Guido Romano of Cranston.

Investigators say before crashing into the home he struck an unoccupied vehicle that was in the breakdown lane near 699 Dyer Avenue.

Following that impact, police say Romano’s vehicle then veered the center line and hit a parked vehicle before crashing into the home.

He was pronounced dead on the scene by the Cranston Fire Department, police said.

Police don’t believe speed or alcohol was a factor.

The Rhode Island State Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
