A 25-year-old man was shot and killed in Providence on Sunday morning.

Providence police responded to a house on Burnside Street at roughly 6 a.m. for a reported disturbance with shots fired.

Chief Oscar Perez told NBC 10 News the shooting happened during an afterhours party.

Neighbors say those parties happen often and the situation is making them feel uneasy.

"The neighborhood on the weekend becomes a different place," one neighbor said. "It has been an ongoing thing and you knew somebody was going to get hurt, because it's not the first time they have been shooting and its not the first time they have had fights out here."

Part of Burnside Street was blocked off with yellow tape until about 2:30 p.m. on Sunday while police were working the investigation.

A woman told NBC 10 News that the shooting victim was her cousin, Ivan Guillermo Encarnacion.

Police said they found a firearm in the area after arresting a man trying to flee the scene on Sunday morning.

It was not immediately known what charges he may be facing.

"The weapon was tossed in front of my home," neighbor Ivan Israel said. "I woke up this morning, knocking at my door around 6:30, 7 in the morning, to have access to my cameras."

NBC 10's Katie Benoit contributed to this report.
