The Suffolk County District Attorney's Office has dropped its case against a well-known sports trainer, stating they couldn't prove the charges.

Robert McClanaghan, 43, of Warwick was arrested in November of 2022 in East Greenwich.

He was accused of drugging and raping a woman in Boston last year.

In January, his bail was reduced, when toxicology reports showed no evidence of known rape drugs.

The District Attorney's Office announced Wednesday it declined to prosecute the case.

”Our responsibility in all cases is to follow the evidence wherever it leads. In some cases that endeavor does not add up to a viable prosecution," wrote a spokesperson for the DA's office in an email to NBC 10. "We have a duty to recognize that conclusion and to take the appropriate action when it is reached. We have taken that appropriate action today. Out of respect for the privacy of all parties involved we will have no further comment."

McClanaghan's lawyer sent NBC 10 the following statement in reaction to the dropped charges:

"Rob and his family are relieved that this nightmare is over, and that he has been exonerated. Rob has maintained his innocence from the very beginning of this case and now he has been vindicated."
