Bullet casings found, shots heard outside of Providence elementary school

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) — Bullet casings were found outside Mary E. Fogarty Elementary School Wednesday after someone reported hearing shots fired.

Providence police responded to the call around 12:30 p.m.

The school was placed on lockdown for about an hour because of the report.

Chief Oscar Perez said casings were discovered on the ground and said no one was hurt.

An NBC 10 News crew saw officers going in and out of a house on nearby Ocean Street, but police could not comment on if it was involved.

The investigation is ongoing.
