Deadly pedestrian accident in Providence investigated as hit-and-run

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) — A deadly pedestrian accident in Providence is now being investigated as a hit-and-run.

The crash occurred shortly after 10 p.m. on Tuesday on North Main Street.

One person was killed in the crash. The victim's identity has not been released.

Providence Police Chief Oscar Perez spoke with NBC 10 on Wednesday about the accident.

"The traffic division that came back, a reconstruction team, we are actively investigating that as well and it's unfortunate and my heart goes out to the family for that incident," Perez said.

Police have not released any information regarding a suspect or suspect vehicle.
