Six taken to hospital in Warwick crash, driver arrested

A driver was arrested and charged in a car crash that injured six people in Warwick.

Warwick police said the two-car accident occurred on Sandy Lane Thursday around 3 p.m. and involved a Subaru sedan and a Ford Escape.

According to police, six occupants were taken to the hospital with varying injuries, with two suffering serious injuries. Police said one of the critical patients is in surgery.

Police said two people had to be extricated from the Subaru.

The Subaru's driver, Jaden Berthole was arrested and charged. The 18-year-old has addresses in Taunton, Massachusetts and Altamonte Springs, Florida, according to police.

Berthole was charged with reckless driving, two counts of driving as so to endanger resulting in serious personal injury and three counts of driving so as to endanger resulting in physical injury.

Police said Berthole was injured but refused medical treatment or transport to the hospital.

Police told NBC 10 Berthole will also be issued several traffic citations. Speed and roadway conditions played a factor in this crash, according to police.

He will be arraigned on Friday at Kent County 3rd District Court.
