Condos are coming to the spot where an iconic West Warwick banquet hall once stood.

The West Valley Inn closed in 2016 and was demolished a few years later.

The project includes 33 duplexes which will make up 66 condo units on the property.

A similar sign named the project “The Residences at West Valley” can be seen from Providence Street.

"They are going to be beautiful. They are going to be two bed, two baths, a one car garage, living, dining room, upstairs bonus room, and storage space,” said Realtor Adam Wilks.

The West Valley Inn was famous for hosting all kinds of events, especially weddings.

It shut down in 2016 and was bought by LaCroix Properties in 2017.

They tried to reopen the landmark but were unable to find someone to buy or lease the property.

The plan for condos has been in the works for a couple of years now.

Wilks says the construction is coming at a time where the need for housing is high.

According to a survey by portlandrealestate.com, Rhode Island has the fewest new homes being built in America.

"It's extremely tough right now, I think as of this morning there were less than 700 single-family homes on the market,” Wilks said. “We need about 2,500 at any given time for that to be enough inventory for the demand."

Wilks says each unit will sell at a market rate for about $400,000.

According to Redfin.com, homes in Rhode Island are selling for a median price of around $410,000.

The entire project is expected to take about two years to complete.
