Man shot, killed during incident with police in Springfield

A man was shot and killed after an incident with police in Springfield, Massachusetts early Saturday morning.

The Hampden County District Attorney's office said troopers assigned to the Massachusetts State Police Gaming Enforcement Unit and Springfield police responded to reports of a possibly-armed 48-year-old man acting aggressively toward others around 2 a.m. in the MGM casino.

Officers found the man as he was leaving the casino and a foot chase ensued.

During the pursuit, shots were fired and exchanged between the man and the responding officers.

The man was struck and brought to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, where he later died.

His name was not immediately released.

State police are assisting the Hampden District Attorney in the investigation.
