A Pawtucket couple is facing numerous drug and child endangerment charges after police say a toddler was found unresponsive with drugs in their system.

Jeifry Dejesus and Emarys Cruz both faced a judge Wednesday in 6th District Court in Providence.

Pawtucket police say they responded to an apartment in the Prospect Heights community for reports of an unresponsive 2-year-old on Monday afternoon.

That child was taken to Hasbro Children's Hospital and later tested positive for cocaine, fentanyl, and xylazine exposure.

Pawtucket police say a search warrant was obtained and narcotics were found in the residence.

Cruz, the mother of the child and Dejesus, her boyfriend were arrested Tuesday afternoon.

They are each facing nine felony charges ranging from fentanyl possession to child endangerment.

Neither defendant entered a plea on Wednesday.

This is not Dejesus' first time behind bars -- his past charges include domestic violence, felony assault and robbery. Court documents show Dejesus pled no contest to many of the charges while others were dismissed.

The latest charges make him a Superior Court violator.

Their cases are now going to Superior Court. In the meantime both will be held without bail.

According to police, the child has recovered and is in stable condition.
