A go-to spot for many, Ganko Ittetsu Ramen on Thayer Street in Providence, is closed for good.

Many saw the restaurant’s announcement online on Sunday, but an NBC 10 News crew saw dozens find out the hard way, walking up and noticing a flyer and a closed sign on the door.

“We just relied on this food all the time and it just sucks that it closed down,” said Providence College student Turner Howell. “Decided to get some noodles today with the boys but can't make it happen.”

The restaurant was highly popular among college students in the area.

“Being college students, we love our ramen, so it's definitely a big hit to our community,” said Providence College student Tom Martino.

Regulars at Ganko said they were thrown off guard.

"I'm a little shocked,” said Jamie Cronshow of Providence. “We were expecting to have some good ramen today and apparently that ain't going to happen now."

Ganko was the first restaurant featured in NBC 10's Cheap Eats segment last summer.

Remaining gift cards can be redeemed at Ganko's location in Brookline, Massachusetts.

NBC 10 reached out to management at the Providence shop about the reason for the decision to close and hasn’t heard back.

“It's always so busy in there, like I'm usually waiting for a table. They didn't say anything, do anything, it was like, 'Oh it's closed now,’” said James Bozzi of Attleboro.
