The Massachusetts Gaming Commission provided an update Tuesday on recent betting violations at two newly launched sportsbooks.

In-person sports betting launched in the Bay State at the end of last month, but two sportsbooks have already reported compliance issues.

The commission says it will review whether Plainridge Park Casino in Plainville and Encore Boston Harbor in Everett broke the rules by accepting bets that were not approved.

Both sites self-reported taking in-state college bets. Generally, in-state college basketball games are not allowed unless the teams are playing in a tournament.

At last week's meeting, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission said wagers were permitted on a Merrimack College men's basketball game at Plainridge Park for around seven hours.

Tuesday's discussion revealed Merrimack College somehow got labeled as a Florida school. Nearly $7,000 worth of illegal bets were placed because of the mistake.

"It can be reported that once they were notified, they corrected the error in approximately 10 minutes," said Chief Enforcement Counsel Heather Hall. "After fixing the error, further review would happen and they confirmed that only Merrimack College was affected and that all other colleges were properly assigned as a Massachusetts school."

Hall said a casino staff member noticed it and investigators believe it was just a mistake.

They created an additional filter to prevent future issues.

The casino did not get fined.
