Rhode Island State Police said Thursday that one person was injured in a shooting near Interstate 95 in Pawtucket.

The shooting was reported at about 3:30 p.m. and shut down a highway off-ramp to Cottage Street.

State police said the circumstances of the shooting were under investigation. Bullet holes were visible in the window of a Mercedes-Benz.

A man with serious injuries was taken to Rhode Island Hospital.

Authorities could not confirm whether the shooting happened on the highway or if it was a case of road rage, but officers were seen marking evidence on the roadway.

Diane LaScola has lived in Pawtucket all of her life.

"This is not normal for me," she said. "There are certain areas that have more problems than others but it's concerning."
