The Department of Environmental Management said partially-treated sewage is flowing into the Blackstone River.

DEM said it is investigating another discharge by the Woonsocket Regional Wastewater Treatment Facility located on Cumberland Hill Road in Woonsocket.

The facility is owned by the city and operated by private contractor Jacobs.

DEM issued a no contact advisory for Blackstone, asking the public to not go in the water or do any activities in it such as kayaking, rowing, fishing and canoeing.

People are also asked to avoid consuming fish coming from parts of the river between Cumberland Hill Road in Woonsocket to Slater Mill Dam in Pawtucket.

This comes after several other unpermitted discharges last year. DEM is still investigating the cause of those discharges.
