Hostage Negotiation: An 8-hour course taught by Columbus Police Detective Terrance S. Kelley. Detective Kelley is a 16-year veteran of CPD and has been on our Hostage Negotiation Team since 2011. Detective Kelley has been involved in at least 350 barricade situations to date and has 23 years of military experience. This course covers:
- The hostage negotiation process
- Negotiation tactics and how they can help a Call Taker
- Skills necessary to keep a person in crisis on the phone until a negotiator can arrive
- SWAT & Hostage Negotiation operations (including operating with suburban departments)
- Two case studies from recent barricade situations with actual audio of the negotiation
