Registration: 2023 USHWA Youth Racecalling Contest, sponsored by the USHWA Canada chapter and Tim Konkle
Use this form to register for the USHWA Youth Announcing Contest by the Canada Chapter. 

Overview
  • Entrants must be a Youth member of the United States Harness Writers Association. Anyone under 21 can register for free thanks to the generous subsidy provided by Tim Konkle. Those interested can email ushwainfo@gmail.com to apply. Entries from non-members will not be considered.
  • Entrants will submit one live call of a harness race for consideration by our panel of judges that includes Hall of Fame announcer Ken Warkentin. The winner will be the call that receives the greatest number of points based on the combined scoring of all judges.

  • The deadline for registration and submission is October 31 at 11:59 p.m. EDT.
  • Entrants who wish to submit using option two (as described in the rules sheet) should register at least a week prior to the deadline in order to ensure a Zoom call can be scheduled. Entrants who are requesting USHWA find them a track to call at for the contest should register as soon as possible and at least two weeks in advance of the deadline. USHWA cannot guarantee a track will be found.
  • Entrants submitting under option one can submit via the dropbox (https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1SN_LMrIK_1fb_44lkdH7zu1h_VdPM8V8?usp=sharing) at any time after completing this form.
  • Calls of replays will not be accepted - the submitted call should be the announcer's first time seeing the race.
  • This contest is run by the Canada Chapter, but members of any chapter are welcome to apply.
  • There is no entry fee.
  • Prizes, scoring method, and all other information is available in the rules sheet.

If you picked option one, do you need USHWA to attempt to connect you with a track in your area?
