SIETAR USA Mentor Application
Thank for your interest in being a SIETAR USA Mentor!

Please take a moment to read the brief description of the mentor role and its expectations outlined below.

A mentor provides access to people, places and things outside of the mentee’s routine environment. A mentor is one who assists the mentee in reaching their goals and models appropriate behavior at all times. The mentor will provide guidance based on experience and assist the mentee by guiding them through the process. The mentor will offer constructive criticism while also being supportive. Additionally, the mentor will request feedback from the mentee and could occasionally assign homework or research.

Mentors are expected to:
1. Be clear about their role for helping the mentee
2. Be clear about what they are able to offer the mentee
3. Guide the mentee while simultaneously allowing the mentee to determine the direction of the mentor/mentee relationship
4. Be prepared for each meeting
5. Only cancel a meeting when absolutely necessary
6. Show respect and work to develop trust
7. Show commitment to the mentee/mentor partnership
8. Share ideas and feedback
