What would it look like to have equitable access to food that nourishes our bodies and nurtures the land? Join us at Camp Long to talk about race in the context of Nurturing the Environment and Food Access. This outdoor workshop will incorporate activities and performances from neighborhood organizations, and create space for community members to engage in deep discussion. Each of us must bring courage to these conversations, especially folks with privilege–that means relying on vulnerability rather than instant resolutions. This event will explore how our food systems are built upon the racial injustices of slavery, and how environmental protection is inseparable from Indigenous sovereignty. By exposing the histories of white supremacy and colonialism in the United States, we can reveal their impacts today. Through timelines, open dialogue, and circle practice, participants will share stories of food traditions and connections to land. We will share these cultural and ancestral stories not to equate our struggles or erase historical oppressions, but rather, to build bridges across difference and promote healing.
