How to Apply

Application Requirements:

In addition to the Graduate School’s Requirements, the Department requires the following:

For the Economics Ph.D. program:

  • GRE scores
  • 3 letters of recommendation, with at least 2 of the letters from academic sources.
  • Personal statement:  650 words maximum.

Please note:  Before making funded offers, we might contact applicants to schedule individual virtual interviews.

    For the Master of Science in Quantitative Economics (MSQE) program:

    • 3 letters of recommendation, with at least 2 of the letters from academic sources.
    • Personal statement:  650 words maximum.

    To apply to the MSQE program, look for “Quantitative Economics MS” in the Graduate School online application.

    Please note:

    The department follows the Graduate School’s standards for TOEFL and IELTS.  To review these standards please see the Teaching Assistant Services website.

    All official test scores should be sent to the University of Connecticut- institution code 3915.

    Please read the instructions in the application- you should not be mailing any documents to the department. All official documents are sent to the Graduate School.

    Application Deadlines:

    For preferred consideration, applications must be received by the following deadlines:

    January 15th for Ph.D. student applying for an assistantship.  Students offered an assistantship will be contacted directly by the department.

    April 20th for Ph.D.  PhD applications will continue to be received after January 15th until April 20th, but these applications are unlikely to be considered for an assistantship.

    May 15th for MSQE Scholarship applications. For details on the MSQE Scholarship and to apply, please click here.

    June 1st for MSQE applications.  There are no graduate assistantships available for MSQE students.
