Communal Loss Adaptation Project (CLAP)

The Communal Loss Adaptation Project (CLAP) honors the universal human need to be witnessed in grief, as our planet changes due to multiple intersecting crises including climate disruptions, and pandemic. CLAP centers the needs and wisdom of those on the frontlines of loss. We use the spiritual tools of Jewish tradition and BIPOC-led Disability Justice activism to mourn, adapt, and heal.

CLAP is currently working towards these programs:

  1. Disabled disenfranchised loss spiritual support groups for disabled individuals who are mourning non-death losses like community and access, in an era of pandemic. This project is made possible by the genrousity of Alice Wong and the Disibility Visibility

  2. An upcoming arts installation to honor disabled losses in the pandemic due to COVID, medical neglect, or despair.

  3. Honoring LGBTQ losses in a time of political backlash

CLAP is a project of Svara: A Traditionally Radical Yeshiva. Svara’s mission is to empower queer and trans people to expand Torah and tradition through the spiritual practice of Talmud study.

It is made possible by the generous funding of Rise Up Initiative: Nourishing the Soul of Jewish Justice
