Derek Hardman passed away last week after battling multiple health issues for the past four years, including kidney failure. Derek was an exceptional person and approached every day with a positive attitude and a smile. After standing beside Derek through his courageous battle, Kim had to say goodbye to her loving husband, and Megan (19) and Jacob (17) to their incredible dad.
As she and her children adapt to life without their devoted husband and father, we would like to lessen the financial burden caused by exhausting all of their financial resources and accumulating debt to pay for their health insurance and medical bills related to Derek's health issues. His dialysis alone ran $25-$30K and unfortunately, he was not able to work for the majority of the time.
The most important thing is providing housing stability and support for Jacob as he goes into his Senior Year of High School and taking the burden of worry off Megan during her schooling.
Derek was the warmest and kindest man who was always available to lend a hand. Derek and Kim have spent countless hours giving back to the community and church through their time with Habitat for Humanity, church missions, coaching softball or volunteering on the board of Leesburg Girls Softball League. It is our hope that the community will surround them with love and support during this difficult time.
