ESPN Continues to Innovate its MLB Coverage in 30th Season with 2019 Japan Opening Series, Two Sunday Games from Mexico and “MLB in Omaha”

  • New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox at London Stadium on ESPN
  • Third Annual MLB Little League Classic from Williamsport, Pa. on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball

ESPN, entering its 30th season of Major League Baseball coverage, has announced it is increasing its number of MLB telecasts in new and innovative locations in 2019. For the first time, ESPN will nationally televise the Japan Opening Series on Wednesday and Thursday, March 20-21, at 5:30 a.m. ET from the famous Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan. The series will feature the Oakland Athletics “hosting” Ichiro Suzuki and the Seattle Mariners. The announcement was made in conjunction with MLB.

Additionally, ESPN will televise two MLB regular season Sunday games from Estadio De Beisbol Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico, this upcoming season. First, on Sunday, April 14, Yasiel Puig and the Cincinnati Reds will “host” Paul Goldschmidt and the St. Louis Cardinals at 4 p.m. ET. Then, on Sunday, May 5, Mike Trout and the Los Angeles Angels “host” Jose Altuve and the Houston Astros at 4 p.m. ET. Both games will directly precede ESPN Sunday Night Baseball presented by Taco Bell at 7 p.m. ET, creating Sunday MLB doubleheaders on ESPN.

Also in a first, ESPN will nationally-televise “MLB in Omaha presented by GEICO” – a special regular season matchup as the Kansas City Royals “host” the Detroit Tigers – on Thursday, June 13, from Omaha, NE., site of the 2019 NCAA Men’s College World Series. The telecast starts at 8 p.m. ET. The College World Series begins two days later, June 15, on ESPN.

As part of Mitel & MLB Present London Series 2019, ESPN will exclusively televise a historic matchup as Aaron Judge and the New York Yankees square off with reigning American League M.V.P. Mookie Betts and the World Series Champion Boston Red Sox at London Stadium on Sunday, June 30. The Sunday Night Baseball team – Matt Vasgersian, analysts Alex Rodriguez and Jessica Mendoza and reporter Buster Olney – will call the 10 a.m. ET telecast on site.

ESPN will exclusively televise the third annual MLB Little League Classic presented by GEICO – Chicago Cubs at Pittsburgh Pirates – on Sunday Night Baseball from Historic Bowman Field in Williamsport, Pa., the location of the 2019 Little League World Series. Vasgersian, Rodriguez, Mendoza and Olney will also call this game. The MLB Little League Classic is Sunday, Aug. 18, at 7 p.m. ET.

All games are available to stream via the ESPN App. For ESPN’s current 2019 Sunday Night Baseball schedule, its season-opening slate, and recent commentator announcements, visit the MLB section of ESPN Media Zone.
