McHenry on JOLTS Data: The Labor Shortage is Fueling Democrat-Induced Inflation

Washington, May 3, 2022 -

Today, the top Republican on the House Financial Services Committee and leader of House Republicans’ Task Force on Jobs and the Economy, Patrick McHenry (NC-10), issued the following statement regarding the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) data released today:

“The labor shortage is fueling Democrat-induced inflation,” said Republican Leader McHenry. “Today’s JOLTS data shows a record 11.5 million unfilled jobs—almost 2 available jobs for every unemployed American worker. Factoring in the latest negative GDP numbers, economic indicators are flashing red. While Democrats continue to claim their policies have brought the economy roaring back, the data tells a very different story. Productivity is not keeping up with wage growth and Democrats in Washington have no plan to address the many crises plaguing our recovery. Republicans remain focused on solutions to connect workers with employers and support job creators.”
