The US Forest Service in partnership with the US Biochar Initiative and the Southern Regional Extension Forestry will be presenting its latest Biochar Webinar titled: "Establishing trees and other native plants using biochar". This live webinar will be held January, 31 2023 from 11 to 12 pm Eastern time.
This month's speaker is Dr. Kasten Dumroese. Kas, the Senior Scientist and Research Plant Physiologist with the Rocky Mountain Research Station, has a forest management degree from Michigan Technological University, a Master's degree in Forest Resources from the University of Idaho, and received his PhD in Forestry from the University of Idaho as well.
Kas has published very extensively, more than 300 peer-reviewed and technology transfer publications focused mainly on native plant propagation and landscape deployment. He has many awards and recognitions from the Forest Service for his outstanding work, including two Chief’s Awards.
His recent research has focused on understanding the long-term processes of tree root system architecture in response to nursery practices and on-going mechanical stresses, evaluating biochar to improve nursery efficiencies, and describing long-term effects on carbon and nitrogen pools under different land management and silviculture scenarios.
He recently co-led the National Forest System team that prepared the National Reforestation Strategy, and currently is serving on the USDA Under Secretary’s Strike Team for Accelerated Reforestation. More information about his work can be found at https://www.fs.usda.gov/research/about/people/kdumroese#research-tab
