Shir Chadash is beginning its search for new rabbinical leadership. As our congregation begins to receive applications, your input is critical to ensuring that our next rabbi meets the needs of our congregation.

The survey below asks for your priorities in our next rabbi and for your thoughts on the direction our congregation should take in the coming years.

A rabbi's role is a composite of many tasks and responsibilities. No one person can fill all the roles that could be expected of a rabbi today. Please select the SIX (6) characteristics that you think are most important in our next rabbi. *

RABBI AS PASTOR: This rabbi sees role as counselor, healer and spiritual caretaker to be core duties.

RABBI AS TEACHER: This rabbi sees teaching as the main task. Divrei Torah are lessons; classes are presented often and in many places. The rabbi works with educators on school issues.

RABBI AS SCHOLAR: This rabbi's focus on personal study serves as a role model and anchors all work done.

RABBI AS SOCIAL ACTIVIST: This rabbi leads us toward social action and tikkun olam work and seeks out partnerships with other worship communities in this focus.

RABBI AS CONGREGATIONAL LEADER: This rabbi helps keep the focus on big picture future items, always leading toward a new purpose and goals. Change is a major theme.

RABBI AS MARA D'ATRA: This rabbi sees being a decisor of Jewish law as a primary activity, and uses the decisions as teachable moments for members of our community.

RABBI AS STAFF LEADER: This rabbi supervises staff, resolves disputes and keeps lay leadership and staff working as a team.

RABBI AS SPIRITUAL LEADER OF WORSHIP: Tefilla is the core of this rabbi's work - leading it, teaching it, focusing on it. Congregants sense an emphasis on spirituality.

RABBI AS COMMUNITY REPRESENTATIVE: This rabbi is active in the Jewish and secular communities, navigating the politics of community life while promoting the role of our kehilla in the community.

RABBI AS FUNDRAISER: This rabbi knows that without funds, there is no Torah, and is willing to take on the task of asking for money directly.

RABBI AS GOVERNANCE LEADER: This rabbi helps create a structure and works collaboratively with lay leaders.

RABBI AS RELIGIOUS MOTIVATOR: This rabbi encourages and reinforces the value and the rewards of observance - i.e., Shabbat, holidays, and kashrut -- through divrei Torah and personal relationships with congregants.

RABBI AS RELATIONAL LEADER: This rabbi actively engages community members inside and outside the walls of the synagogue as well as hosts Shabbat dinners, Sukkot gatherings, etc., at his/her home.

RABBI AS INCLUSIVE LEADER: This rabbi has a vision of engagement for 21st century families which include but are not limited to interfaith, LGBTQ+ and special needs.
