Melvin the Moose Murder Mystery
Case # MTM2021

Master your nature detective skills and become a member of the FBI – the Forest Bureau of Investigation.

There has been a death in the forest and we do not know if it is foul play, accidental or death by natural causes. In order to solve this mystery, you are now deputies of the Forest Bureau of Investigation (FBI). It will be up to you to figure out what happened. Using your finely-honed detective skills, you will visit the crime scene, study all the evidence, interview the suspects and analyze forensic results from the crime lab. The Lesser Slave Forest Education Society and Boreal Centre for Bird Conservation need your help!

These are the facts as we know them right now! Melvin the Moose is dead and we need FBI deputies to solve this mystery. To crack the case, you will need to uncover the facts by determining:

1. Who was Melvin the Moose – Where did he live? What was his natural habitat? What did he like to eat? Where did he sleep? It’s important to know about his natural environment before you can eliminate any suspects.

2. Where is the crime scene? What is the location? Was it a part of Melvin’s habitat? You need to examine the photos for evidence and clues.

3. Who are the suspects? What do they have in common with Melvin the Moose? Do they have alibis? Is there a motive?

4. What evidence can the Crime Scene Investigation Lab (CSI) extract and process from the crime scene? Is there analytical evidence that can prove what happened to Melvin? Is there scientific evidence that can verify your suspects’ alibis?

We have broken down the evidence into five parts for you to explore. After each part, you can review the suspects in the case and potentially eliminate some. Once you have been through all the parts successfully, you will proceed to the FBI Headquarters to prove your case.

Time Frame: Depending on your detective skills and how much fun you have: 1 – 2 hours
