Our third Public Discussion Forum, co-sponsored by the American Association of University Women Tucson (AZ) Branch, featured a panel of “literal superheroes,” according to Freedom Center Director and Associate Professor in the Department of Political Economy and Moral Science Mary L. Rigdon.
Adia Barnes, Kathryn Bertine, AJ Mleczko, Sarah Spain, Kathrine Switzer, and moderator Damien Alameda delivered an event to remember. Through raw and powerful stories mingled with humor and inspiration, their call to action was unmistakable. We’ve come a long way but still have a long way to go to achieve women’s equity in sports and society.

The Great Reshuffling: A Perfect Storm or the New Norm?

Our second Public Discussion Forum addressed the workforce phenomena known as The Great Reshuffling. This panel included Morgan Stanley’s Chief Legal Officer, Eric Grossman, Arizona Coyotes President & CEO Xavier A. Gutierrez, National Review Senior Editor Jay Nordlinger, and University of Arizona Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer Helena A. Rodrigues. They all brought a unique perspective highlighting the importance of building and maintaining a great workforce and working to identify the new norm regarding virtual work, team building, and maintaining a strong organizational culture.

Our first Public Discussion Forum was during the pandemic with nationally recognized restaurateurs who detailed the unprecedented challenges they faced when the world shut down during the pandemic. This panel included 3 James Beard nominated chefs: Amanda Cohen of Dirt Candy (Michelin star restaurant), Don Guerra of Barrio Bread (James Beard awarded baker), Maria Mazon of Boca Tacos, and moderator Sabrina Medora. Their resilience to reimagine how to maintain their businesses, protect their employees, and persevere was informational and inspirational.
