As a genealogist, I like to think we are all distantly related, so I truly enjoy learning the customs of other countries, and Terry Lister's account of Christmas in Africa did not disappoint. Each chapter explains the customs of a different country, but no matter what food they eat or how they worship, one thing remains constant - family and friends are the most important. What a terrific lesson!

Wow, I learned so much about Africa and which parts celebrate Christmas and how.

Here are a few things I now know thanks to this brilliant book.
* Sierra Leone celebrate with masquerade parties
* only synthetic trees are allowed in Rwanda
* Abidjan is the Paris of Africa
* Zimbabwe factories close all December.

Africa is not the richest continent but they prove you don't need piles of paper money to have a joyous time. Its about family time.
For them, its about faith too.

This is the second book that I have read from the author. I am heavily into reading about cultures and this gives the facts. Africa is a very diverse continent so of course there will be different customs. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about all of them.
Not call of Africa is Christians which is also interesting reading about the way that it interacts with Islam in some of those countries.
