Boys U19 National Team for the NORCECA Continental Championship

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (March 9, 2023) – The USA Volleyball National Team Development Program (NTDP) has selected 12 athletes to compete at the 2023 Boys U19 NORCECA Continental Championship on March 13-18 in Guatemala City, Guatemala.

The 12 athletes were chosen from a roster of 18 who trained March 5-9 at the Anaheim National Team Training Center.

“It’s a really impressive group of young men,” said Head Coach Matt Fuerbringer, who is also an assistant coach for the U.S. Men’s National Team. “They’re really working hard and getting better every day. We’re going to be as ready as we can be to go to Guatemala and compete.”

Six players on the roster return from the 2022 team that won the Boys U19 Pan American Cup (the first U.S. team to win the event) and qualified for the 2023 FIVB U19 Boys World Championship: outside hitters Sterling Foley, Sean Kelly and Victor Loiola, setter Tread Rosenthal, opposite Finn Kearney and libero Kellen Larson.

Two other players were alternates on the 2022 Boys U19 Pan American Cup roster middle Josh Aruya and setter Trent Taliaferro.

Outside hitter Sebastiano Sani, middles Gaige Gabriel and Isaiah Preuitt, and opposite Marek Turner will make their international debuts.

Alternates for the team are outside hitter Kahale Clini, middles Trevell Jordan and Parker Tomkinson, setter Peter Zurawski and libero Roan Alviar.

Coaches Kevin Moore and Daniele Desiderio will assist Fuerbringer. U.S. Men’s Performance Analyst Nate Ngo will serve that role for the Boys U19 Team.

“This competition is a great way to measure where we are at,” Fuerbringer said. “One of our big goals is to win the event. Our other big goal is to get the boys ready for world championships later this summer.”

The 2023 NORCECA Boys U19 Continental Championship is a qualifier for the 2025 FIVB U19 Boys World Championship.

Other teams competing are Belize, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico and Suriname.

Cuba won the last NORECECA Boys U19 Continental Championship in 2018 in San José, Costa Rica, beating the U.S. team in the final; Puerto Rico took third place after beating Guatemala.

The 2023 Boys U19 Continental Championship was a late addition to the NORCECA calendar and USA Volleyball thanks the players who agreed to be a part of this team along with their families.
