The suspect arrested and tased in a breaking and entering while homeowners were present on Providence’s East Side this week has multiple prior felony arrests — and until now, no jail time, GoLocal has learned.

The suspect — Keveon Gomera, age 29 — had been arrested in 2020 for vandalizing tombstones at the Dominican Cemetery at Providence College with both anti-Semitic and anti-Catholic graffiti and assaulting a police officer.

In that instance, he was charged with fifteen felony counts of “desecration of a grave” — all of which but one were dismissed by Judge Daniel Procaccini in October of 2022. He was also ordered to an intensive mental health outpatient treatment program.

Gomera was given a “deferred” sentence for one count of grave desecration, and a deferred sentence for assaulting an officer.

According to the Department of Corrections, Gomera is currently at the Adult Correctional Institution following his most recent arrest.

“Our records show the individual you mentioned is here in the ISC awaiting trial,” said J.R. Ventura, spokesperson for the RI Department of Corrections.

“I can tell you that his record shows he has not served any sentences inside our facilities,” added Ventura.

Additional Arrests and Charges

Court records show Gomera was arrested by Providence Police in June of 2021 for “domestic violence - willful trespass;” and was given one-year probation by Judge Terence Houlihan.

In January 2022, Gomera was arrested by East Providence Police for assaulting an officer; that charge was dismissed by Procaccini in October 2022

In the most recent incident on Barnes Street on the East Side, police said they needed to use a taser when Gomera — who entered the dwelling when two people were present — moved “aggressively” toward the homeowners as well as officers.

Gomera is currently awaiting trial.
