Tuesday, February 28, 2023
Former Republican state senate candidate, small businessman, and veteran Joe Powers on Tuesday announced his intent to run for Rhode Island Republican Party chairman.
“First, I would like to thank Chairwoman Sue Cienki for her tireless work over the past years and I wish her the best as she pursues the role of national committeewoman," said Powers. “After consulting with my family, I have decided to step up and run for RIGOP chairman. We have an opportunity to build a stronger Republican Party by learning from last year’s election. We need to invest in data operations and support qualified candidates in targeted seats."
“We will challenge Democrats that espouse conservative values and refuse to stand up to the most extreme wing of their party. Extreme far-leftists continue to push legislation that undermines our personal freedoms while the so-called conservative Democrats stand idle. It is time for a change. We need new, bold leadership to lead our party," he continued. “I am committed to strengthening the Republicans Party to bring a much-needed change in Rhode Island by electing Republicans up and down the ballot in 2024.”
