Brown Men’s Basketball Upsets Dartmouth
Friday, February 03, 2023
The Brown men's basketball team tied their season high of 13 three-pointers to beat Dartmouth 73-61 Friday night at Leede Arena in New Hampshire.
"It was a great win for our team tonight against a good opponent that has been playing really well," Brown head coach Mike Martin said. "We withstood a barrage of threes there in the second half. I thought our offense was fantastic in the second half, and our defense was terrific in the first half."
Brown is now 4-4 in the league, tied with two other teams -- Penn and Dartmouth.

Kino Lilly Jr. led the way for the Bears with 23 points, including five threes, three assists, and two rebounds. Paxson Wojcik was also excellent for Brown with 15 points, nine rebounds, and six assists. Aaron Cooley tied his career-high of 14 points and added seven rebounds, while Nana Owusu-Anane had seven points, nine rebounds, five blocks, four assists, and two steals.
Three Pointers: Lilly scored five and were three each by Wojcik and Kimo Ferrari, and two from Cooley.
Brown's defense held Dartmouth to just 24% shooting in the first half as the Bears built a 13-point lead going into halftime. Leading by just three with 9:34 to go in the opening half, the Bears went on to outscore the Big Green 20-7 over the next nine minutes to lead 34-18 before Dartmouth hit a three to bring the game into the break at 34-21.
Brown held its largest lead of the game with 14:21 to go in the second half on Lilly's first of three threes during the second frame.
The Big Green would cut the Bears' lead to seven with 9:25 to go, but that's as close as the home team would get. Brown used a 10-2 run to stretch its lead back out to 16 with five minutes to play.
The Bears were 14-for-16 (87.5%) from the free throw line on the night, including going a perfect 8-for-8 over the final five-plus minutes to help seal the victory.
"We are fifty percent done with what we want to accomplish this weekend," Martin said. "We got one win tonight and now we've got to lock in for a great challenge, but also a great opportunity, tomorrow."
With the win, Martin moves within one victory of tying the program record for most wins by a head coach. He has 132 career wins and the record is 133 held by Stanley Ward.
