Brown Coach Mike Martin

The Brown men's basketball team completed the road weekend sweep with a 68-65 win over Harvard Saturday night at the Lavietes Pavilion.

"It was a huge win for our team and a huge weekend for our program," Brown coach Mike Martin said. "We talked going into the weekend about how these would be playoff-like games. Again, we're not in the position where we have to win every game, but when you do win these games, it certainly helps."

Brown nearly let the game get away -- losing a ten point lead with 4 minutes to go.

Paxson Wojcik set a new career-high with 23 points, while he grabbed eight rebounds as well. Kino Lilly Jr. had 21 points, Nana Owusu-Anane finished with 12 and Dan Friday 10. Owusu-Anane also had nine rebounds and two blocks and Friday led the team with three assists.

Trailing by one at the 17:24 mark of the second half, Brown used a 16-0 run to take a commanding 49-34 lead with 11:49 remaining. Lilly, Friday, and Wojcik all contributed four points during the run, Owusu-Anane had three.

The Crimson would eventually close the gap to as little as two, but with only six seconds remaining. Wojcik made 1-of-2 from the line to make it a three-point game, and Harvard's desperation three bounced out as the Bears held on for the victory.

Over the final 3:30, the Bears scored all their points from the line, going 12-for-16 in that stretch to secure the win.

The Bears led for the majority of the first half. Harvard scored the first bucket, but Brown immediately answered and would hold on to the lead for 17:10 of the opening 20 minutes.

With the victory, the Bears improved to 5-4 in Ivy League play, while Harvard fell to 3-6. Brown is tied with both Cornell and Penn at 5-4. Princeton is 7-2 and Yale is 6-3.
