RI Superior Court Judge Richard Licht

In a message to the judges and administrators in the Rhode Island court system, Chief Justice Paul Suttell gave an update on Superior Court Justice Richard Licht.

Licth -- a former Lt. Governor of Rhode Island -- was hit by a Jeep and injured when crossing Smith Street Wednesday night outside of the State House.

As many of you are now aware, our esteemed colleague Superior Court Associate Justice Richard A. Licht suffered an accident on Smith Street across from the State House Wednesday evening. Judge Licht was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he remains in serious condition.

Thank you to our colleagues and neighbors for your concern. We’d also like to extend a wholehearted ‘thank you’ to the first responders and public safety personnel from the City of Providence who responded swiftly and with care.  Our thanks also to the Rhode Island State Police who provided valuable assistance to the Licht family. 

We ask that you respect Judge Licht and his family’s privacy at this time and keep his recovery in your thoughts and prayers.
