The official announcement is either hours or a day away, but all reports from Providence College and the media are that George Mason Coach Kim English will be the Providence College Friars' next head coach.

The chaotic departure of Coach Ed Cooley has already cost the Friars two four-star recruits — both Garwey Dual and Drew Fielder have decommitted.

As of 12 noon on Wednesday, however, none of the Friars other than graduating senior Jared Bynum have entered the transfer portal.

Here are three things to know about English:

1. Barnes Boosting

His biggest booster is former PC coach and Rick Barnes — now the coach at the University of Tennessee. Here is what Barnes said when Englishgot the George Mason job two years ago:

"Kim English is a grand slam hire for George Mason. He's the total package. From the day he joined our staff at Tennessee, he made an immediate impact on our program. He has a unique gift for connecting with people and forming genuine relationships. I'm particularly proud that he gets the opportunity to begin his head coaching career at the special place that also gave me my first big opportunity. I know he'll lead the Patriots to great success."

2. Smartest Player on the Court

Repeatedly it is mentioned that English was the “smartest player” on the court when playing for Missouri as a college player. A good attribute to have as a head coach.

3. NBA Credibility - Detriot Bad Boys

When recruiting, English has something that Cooley did not have -- NBA credibility. English was a second-round pick and Detriot Piston's blog Detroit Bad Boys wrote about draft pick English in 2012:

Trolling the internet looking for comments and interviews, it became clear that English is a tough, blue-collar kid and that he is incredibly intelligent. More predictions: Barring the signing of a veteran backup point guard, English is going to be the first guard off the bench; He is going to be the beat writer's favorite person to get a quote from. He's smart, eloquent and funny.
