About Incident
Providence Police were called to Hope High School shortly before 3 PM on Thursday for a report of a student with a knife.
According to school officials, a teacher had discovered an unattended backpack in the cafeteria shortly after lunch - that contained a machete with a 14-inch blade.
The machete was turned over to school officials; a student was identified and called to the principal’s office, where he admitted the machete was his and he brought it to school.
Police say the student was taken into custody without incident and turned over to Youth Services for charging.
