This week there was a little reunion before the Big Game, and it felt so good. Well, at least it sounded so good.

That’s what Patriots fans were saying earlier this week when head coach Bill Belichick joined Tom Brady’s podcast “Let’s Go.” It was a celebration of sorts after Brady retired for the second time on February 1st. Belichick, along with Peyton Manning, Rob Gronkowski, Brady’s parents, and Oprah Winfrey, joined the seven-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback to reminisce over his 23-year career.

“For me, there’s nobody I’d rather be associated with. I think it’s always a stupid conversation to say, ‘Brady vs. Belichick’ because, in my mind, that’s not what a partnership is about,” Brady said on the podcast. “Coach couldn’t play quarterback and I couldn’t coach. The best part about football is, and Coach says it a lot: Do your job. And he asked me to play quarterback. He didn’t ask me to coach.”

As for Belichick, he said this about Brady, a player he coached for 20 seasons in New England and winning six Super Bowl championships.

“The greatest player. The greatest career. A great, great person,” Belichick said. “I guess it has to end at some point.”

No matter which side you were on, there’s no denying the dynastic success of Brady and Belichick together:

6 Super Bowl Championships
9 Super Bowl Appearances
249 wins
20 seasons – 19 consecutive winning seasons
17 AFC East Division Titles
13 AFC Championship Game appearances
1 Undefeated 16-0 regular season (2007)

With as much winning as those two have done over nearly a quarter of a century, it’s an odd Super Bowl Sunday coming up with neither being a participant.
