Imagine life without all the luxuries that are at our disposal today.

Stop and think of some of the things we take for granted living in this civilized world.

We have automobiles, convenience stores and markets to buy food. Hell, we don’t even need to leave the house to eat because there are apps that we can order food from without ever leaving the lazy boy chair.

Now imagine we were all wild animals living in an uncivilized world without those luxuries or helpful accessories.

How many people would be able to build their own houses?

How many people would be able to hunt for their own food?

How many people would be able to survive?

The answer is not many.

Ya see, as a society, we have become weak, dependent, and feel entitled to an easy life.

We feel that being born into this world gives us entitlement to do whatever we want, and expect someone to step in and throw us a lifeline when we need it.

Some of these things provided for us act as a crutch because people know they can always be a dependent on outside sources to help them out when needed.

I got this revelation while sitting at a stoplight last week watching this 70 + pound overweight man with a cigarette in his mouth, and a rack of beer in his hand, gimping to his car.

He was literally gasping for air, and could barely move, however, he had that cigarette and beer secured as he nonchalantly crossed the street (NOT in the crosswalks) and held up traffic so he could cross the street at his pace.

I immediately started thinking that if we were in the Serengeti, he would be mauled by a wild animal within seconds.

This was a weak human that would be singled out by the pride and taken down in a split second. (By the way, I love watching the Discovery channel)

I also thought, what gives him the right to hold up traffic, and other people with things to do, so he could go on his merry way, and continue to destroy his health even further?

I kept thinking: He is probably on tons of medication, visits the doctors regularly and eats whatever the hell he wants. (Now I am speculating and sharing my thoughts, so there is no scientific data here, just my opinion.)

I then came to the conclusion that we have become a weak society and a majority of us would have a difficult time surviving in a less-than-abundant situation that we are in.

We have become too dependent on luxuries and things that make life easy for us.

I know most people don’t want to be in these unfavorable situations, like being sick and overweight, however, some just outright refuse to take action towards self-improvement.

They stay stuck in their own prison and actively complain that things aren’t going well for them.

As I keep thinking and making comparisons to the animal kingdom, and putting the human population in that environment (the only the strong survive environment) I keep coming to the conclusion that the population would probably thin itself out by 50% or more if we didn’t have the resources that are easily available to us.

Ask yourself if you were stripped of everything you own, and parachuted into a land where you needed to rely on your own physical ability and resourcefulness, would you survive? No Stop & Shop, No Home depot, Walmart etc.

Well the good news is it most likely won’t happen, however there are some things you can start doing today that would make you resilient to adversity, and become more self-sufficient in a hostile world.

Do hard things:

Try working out and stepping outside your comfort zone. Success and growth happen when we become uncomfortable, and need to dig deep to finish a hard workout. Plus you will feel a sense of satisfaction when you are finished, and feel stronger and more confident.

Take a cold shower for 30+ seconds at a time. I hate the cold, yet when I finish doing this, I feel energized and unstoppable. Don’t ease into it, just crank the valve to cold and suffer through!!

Show some discipline with your eating. A second of discipline hurts far worse that the regret you feel when you eat crap. When you exercise discipline consistently, you feel great mentally and physically. Your immediate thought is that you are missing something good, however the next day, you will be happy you showed discipline.

Park far away from the door when you go out. Don’t search for the closest spot. You already took the easy way and drove to your destination, now get out and walk across the parking lot. Stay in the rain a little longer, it won’t kill you.

Take the stairs over the elevator. Again, doing something that requires a little more effort builds character.

The moral of the story is that we need to utilize the resources that we have so we can be self-sufficient and not rely on other people or outside resources to take care of us.

If we live with some structure and discipline, we could all be in decent shape and be in charge of our own destiny.

Yes there are times and circumstances beyond our control that can derail us and put us in these unfavorable positions, but I am generalizing and telling you that most humans have a choice to thrive or diminish.

It all depends on the decisions you make and the actions you take.

Don’t be that weak wildebeest that gets taken down first, be the strong one with the horns that rolls over the loins when they try to attack. Make yourself stronger and be the one that dominates!!

The world needs more leaders and less dependents.
