Hitachi subsidiary Hitachi Vantara said Tuesday it is set to acquire REAN Cloud, which earlier this year won a high-profile and controversial deal from the Pentagon for cloud services.

"This acquisition will reinforce Hitachi Vantara's ability to accelerate secure enterprise cloud adoption across multicloud environments and strengthen its ability to manage and operate traditional applications as well as emerging workloads in artificial intelligence and machine learning," the company said.

Under the terms of the deal, REAN Cloud's founders will continue to lead the business, which will become part of Hitachi Vantara's solutions and services organization.

The deal is expected to close later this deal. Terms were not disclosed.

Earlier this year, the Defense Department awarded a follow-on production agreement worth nearly $1 billion to REAN Cloud. The deal was facilitated by the Defense Innovation Unit Experimental and followed prototype work REAN Cloud did for U.S. Transportation Command.

However, Oracle America filed a bid protest, which was upheld by the Government Accountability Office.
