Hi there crafty friends, and thank you to Altenew for sending you along to my blog as part of today’s Paint-A-Flower Blog Hop where we are revealing the brand new Camellia Waterhouse stamp set. Two gorgeous blooms, full of petals and cute sentiments. Today’s hop also features a giveaway!

For my card today I really wanted to feature some yellow – the yucky cold winter weather and dark days need some brightening here in NY, and yellow always makes my mood lift. I also wanted to do a spotlight technique, where only part of the image itself is colored in.

I started by stamping a panel of color press watercolor cardstock with the image in Warm Sunshine Crispy Dye Ink. I also re-stamped it again on a panel of white cardstock and set it aside. I then die cut the watercolor panel using a tag die from the Terrific Tags die set.

I only wanted to watercolor the area the size of the tag, which is why I did my die cutting first. I used Artists Watercolors, adding layers of pale yellow, then building up with deeper yellow and. touch of orange where the petals fold in on each other. I added pale green to the leaves and darker shading where the leaves peep from the florals.

When my painting was complete, I added some flicks of Warm Sunshine Metallic Ink Spray over my white card panel, and also stamped the sentiment in Obsidian Pigment Ink. I arranged my watercolored tag over the top, exactly lining up the outlines, and mounted it with some Instant Dimension Foam Tape. I heat embossed an additional sentiment in Pure White Crisp Embossing powder on Jet Black cardstock, die cut it with a Featured Sentiments die. To embellish, I added some gold metallic thread, and a few Satin Gold Sequins to finish.

  2. Jenny, I like the colors you used and the tag as the focal point of your display! Wonderful inspiration. Thanks

  3. Very creative! I like the yellow outline on the main card and the pop of color on the tag. Such a great idea,

  4. I love the idea of stamping and coloring just part of the flower. As I looked at this card, I could imagine the recipient using the tag portion as a bookmark. Having the full design on the cardstock behind the tag is a beautiful addition to the card. Thank you for the idea.
