Position Description | The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment at Texas State University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar with experience in surface water modeling. The position involves work on projects in support of our mission to perform research that informs science-based solutions to pressing issues in water resources management. The post-doc will work in a multi-disciplinary team with expertise in numerical modeling, statistical methods, and water resources management. The post-doc will ideally complement the existing knowledge/expertise of the team. Current work underway involves improving understanding of how climate change will affect future surface and groundwater resources in Texas, however, some Meadow’s Center researchers are involved in other national and international collaborative research efforts and additional project opportunities may be available. The post-doc will also participate with the team in dissemination of research results and in the development of proposals for future research projects. Contract is one year with extension to two or more based on satisfactory performance. |
Required Qualifications | · Ph.D., from an appropriately accredited university, in Hydrology, Civil or Environmental Engineering, or a field requiring substantive computational modeling· Demonstrated experience in surface water modeling using a recognized approach and/or package (e.g., HEC codes, GSFLOW, SWAT, etc.)· Strong programing proficiency, ideally using Python and/or R· Experience with presentation and publication of scientific researchAbility to work independently |
Preferred Qualifications | Additional qualifications that would be considered favorably include, but are not limited to, the following:· Other programming skills in addition to those listed above· Knowledge and/or experience with SQL or related approaches to relational database management· Experience with coding algorithms and/or algorithms development· Knowledge of multivariate analysis and/or techniques used in uncertainty analysis· Advanced knowledge of statistical techniques employed in water modeling research/stochastic hydrology· Experiencing serving data via web interfaces including, e.g., R Shiny apps, CKAN, or other· Experience using WRAP software under the WAM systemExperience with PHREEQC |
