| Description | The School of Marine and Environmental Programs (SMEP) in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at the University of New England (UNE) invites applications for one-year, full-time Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor starting in August 2023. The successful candidate will join a group of engaged and research-active faculty and professional staff in SMEP, offering undergraduate programs in Climate Change Studies, Marine Sciences, Marine Affairs, Marine Entrepreneurship, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, GIS, and Sustainability and Business. SMEP also offers master’s programs in Marine Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Studies, and Ocean Food Systems. | Responsibilities | The school seeks candidates to teach environmental studies courses including Introduction to Environmental Issues, Environment and Society, and other courses in the candidate’s area of expertise as needed or appropriate. This position typically teaches the equivalent of 12 credits per semester. The successful candidate will also be invited to participate in academic advising, recruiting, curriculum development, course and program assessment, and service to the school, college, and university . |
| Qualifications | A master’s degree in environmental studies, environmental sciences, or an appropriate field is required by the time of appointment; candidates with Ph.D. and/or undergraduate teaching experience are preferred. Candidates must have substantive knowledge of the human dimensions of and social issues related to climate change. Candidates must be committed to interdisciplinary teaching and active learning pedagogies, and have a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness. |
