ICF is seeking a Senior Climate Resilience Specialist to support our broad portfolio of work on climate adaptation and resilience. This work falls across all levels of government and with commercial clients, enhancing the resilience of energy, transportation, and water systems, other critical infrastructure, and the vital societal and natural elements that make our communities whole. Our world-class analysis are based in rigorous science, clearly communicated to enable proactive planning and implementation of resilience solutions. The consultant chosen for this position will provide technical expertise related to the analysis and interpretation of weather and climate data and support multi-disciplinary teams of experts on multiple short- and long-term projects primarily within the climate adaptation and resilience practice.

Preferred location for this position is Salt Lake City, UT; Crystal City, VA; New York City under a hybrid work arrangement (i.e., minimum of 2 days/week in the ICF office).  May consider remote opportunity if candidate is most qualified.

Specific duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as a technical expert on multi-disciplinary teams focused on applied climate risk and resilience projects.
  • Provide technical expertise, innovation, and leadership related to the analysis and application of climate and weather data.
  • Interface with clients on climate risk and resilience topics and prepare high-quality communication materials such as presentations and reports.
  • Complete tasks in fast-paced and self-motivated environment in a timely and efficient manner

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in climate science, atmospheric science, Earth science, meteorology, or hydrology, or similar field with a focus on applied physical climate science problems or risk analysis. Degrees in engineering or other disciplines must demonstrate significant experience with climate and meteorological information.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience including:
    • Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret climate model output and meteorological observations for climate risk and resilience analyses.
    • One or more programming languages (e.g., R, python, and MATLAB) to process large, multidimensional climate and environmental datasets (e.g., NetCDF) and raster and vector spatial datasets (e.g., GeoTIFF, and .shp)

 Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • 2 years+ of experience in consulting, government, or at an energy utility
  • Demonstrated experience applying climate change and/or extreme weather datasets to support risk and resilience projects in one or more of the following sectors: energy, transportation, community resilience, finance, or similar.
  • Experience working with Global Climate Models (e.g., CMIP6), including understanding of multiple climate downscaling methodologies and ensemble and uncertainty analyses.
  • Technical and team management experience for complex projects in a consulting environment
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate complex climate information to non-scientists to inform decision-making.
  • Experience working with and leading multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Organized, detail oriented, and the ability to prioritize and multi-task.

Pay Range – There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position. The pay range for this position is:$68,325.00 – $116,152.00
