Ocean Infinity is seeking an Environmental Specialist to champion our technology developments in the fields of metocean data, protected species identification, habitat mapping and other data harvesting opportunities.  The successful candidate will identify and develop market opportunities along with subsequent sensor specification and software development strategy. This will allow the candidate to realize remote data collection and processing opportunities, as well as to identify and develop new capability and data products for our Clients or other end users.  In collaboration with the existing Subsea Technology and Data Solution teams this role will enhance our environmental data collection capabilities alongside remote acquisition of hydrographic, geophysical, geotechnical and inspection data sets from uncrewed surface vessels.

What will you do:

  • Familiarise with current equipment specification and identify opportunities for development to support remote environmental workscopes;
  • Identify new sensor technologies requirements and work with the Subsea Technology sensing and control teams to assess integration and operational feasibility;
  • Work with business development and tendering teams to identify market opportunities for environmental data collection and feedback technical readiness of current solutions;
  • Work with departmental budget holders to identify cost models for new technology integrations and developments;
  • Develop roadmap and implementation strategy for environmental sensing capabilities for the business;
  • Ensure developments are in line with current environmental regulatory frameworks and guidelines in the applications of Environmental, Hydrographic, Geophysical, Geotechnical and Subsea Inspection Surveys;
  • Build a team of technicians and engage software development teams to establish a community focussed on environment sensing and data representation to our clients;
  • Liaise with Marine Data Solution team in regard to data management and advise on product servicing to end users;
  • Support remote survey operations team in developing standard operating procedures for new technologies;
  • Build and manage training program content for new technicians and operatives;
  • Be conversant in complex project management tools such as MS Project, Office365 tools and/or Atlassian suite of tools;
  • Support recruitment, budget and overall department strategy planning.

Who you are:

  • A degree in a relevant oceanographic or marine biological subject area;
  • Over 8 years experience in sensing integrations, operations or product development;
  • Experience in metocean sensing, data processing, passive acoustic monitoring and/or image digitisation/classification;
  • Strong working knowledge of regulatory frameworks and guidelines for Geophysical applications such as MMO and Protected Species requirements;
  • Strong understanding of quality management such as standards, regulations and applicable policies and procedures;
  • Good practical experience with office tools: MS Office, Google Drive, Teams, e-mail, among others;
  • Ability to take ownership and engagement in the work;
  • Ability to work as a trusted advisor with senior stakeholders;
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment;
  • Driven, proactive and able to work autonomously with little supervision towards the company’s purpose; 
  • Critical thinking and ability to show initiative;
  • Open and receptive to new and different ideas;
  • Enthusiastic about protecting people and the planet.

Desirable: 

  • Experience in Software Development, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning techniques.
