Contract: Permanent, Full-time

Salary: United Kingdom: 53,575 – 61,144 GBP

Rwanda: 40,000,000 – 51,306,306 RWF

South Africa: 950,000 – 1,191,126 ZAR

Location: The role can be based in the UK or one of the following WaterAid Country Programme – Rwanda or South Africa, subject to right to work eligibility in the respective countries.

Travel will be required for this role.

This position will be based in the Policy Team which consist of a highly motivated group of 11 policy analysts, who are passionate about influencing policy change to enable sustainable access to WASH to the world’s poorest and most marginalised people through evidence-based advocacy.

As our innovative and ambitious Lead Policy Analyst – Water Security and Climate Resilience, you will manage and lead the WaterAid’s water security and climate resilient Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) policy agenda. You will act as a resource for the development of robust policy responses to the challenges presented by increasing water stress which threaten WaterAid’s objective of universal access to WASH by 2030. You will act as an authoritative reference point for WaterAid on water security in relation to WASH, taking the lead on developing informed WaterAid positions on pro-poor policy options concerning these issues.

About the role:

In this role, you will lead and shape the design of water security policy agendas relevant for climate resilient WASH and adaptation measures. You will play a major part in realising WaterAid’s ambition to strengthen the resilience of WASH to climate change and achieve national change through its research, policy work and global advocacy priorities and campaigns

You’ll also:

  • Lead WaterAid’s Water Security and Climate resilient WASH policy agenda
  • Provide strategic leadership and mentoring of the Climate Resilient WASH Team within the Global Policy and Research Team.
  • Lead the shaping of external policy debates on water security and climate resilience to increase the attention and resources dedicated to WASH as a critical means of delivering water security and climate resilience e
  • Lead the articulation of clear narratives of WaterAid’s climate resilient WASH to help to influence increased climate fund flow for water, sanitation and hygiene particularly for the world’s poorest countries.

To be successful, you’ll need:

  • Extensive experience of working in and leading public policy and/or advocacy on issues related to water security and climate resilient water, sanitation and hygiene
  • Experience and demonstrated evidence of leading and managing teams including senior team members;
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of the impact of climate change on water security for WASH particularly in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia, and the corresponding policy implications to ensure that water for WASH is prioritised amongst other water use polices
  • University degree in Water Resources Management, Hydrology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Sciences or other related discipline.
  • A willingness to travel and an ability to work independently with limited supervision.
