Engineering Gate for Research and Development is a social enterprise start-up that focuses on providing smart engineering services and frontier tech solutions for development and humanitarian challenges. Our services include:

  • Research, data collection, monitoring, and evaluation for Shelter & Settlements, WASH, Early Recovery, Infrastructure Rehabilitation, Construction Development, Environmental & Climate Change, Agriculture & Irrigation, and SMB support/development projects/interventions.
  • Developing smart engineering and frontier tech solutions for humanitarian and development challenges.
  • Consultant services for international NGOs (capacity building, project planning, project management, etc.).

We are now pre-qualifying experienced professionals with strong backgrounds in designing, developing, and implementing irrigation strategies/programs to support remotely or deploy to assist in research, assessments, trainings, and evaluation.

Successful applicants will be added to the Pool of Consultants and will be contacted and offered opportunities to quote for short-term consultancies when appropriate opportunities arise. This pre-qualification process will be valid for a period of two years.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Excellent academic qualifications, preferably including a Master’s degree in irrigation systems;
  • At least five (5) years (in total) of experience in relation to irrigation (compulsory) with additional experiences in agriculture and/or water management (optional) in low-income/developing countries including being involved in the design, implementation, or evaluation of related projects.
  • Proficiency and proven experience with irrigation research (compulsory).
  • Excellent analytical skills in both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies
  • Ability to communicate (verbal and written) confidently in English.
  • Past experience in the Syrian irrigation/agriculture context (and Northeast Syria in particular) will be an outstanding advantage.
  • Knowledge of Arabic will be an asset.

  • Organization: A systematic approach to work, with the ability to multitask and manage time efficiently, meeting deadlines under pressure
  • Integrity: Must have a strong sense of research and professional ethics, be conscientious in approach to work, and be committed to assignment standards.
  • Communication: Ability to communicate (verbal and written) confidently in English and adapt to different audiences and cultural contexts

Compensation and Support

  • Experts and professionals are granted a fixed expert fee and a daily subsistence allowance according to the project’s rules;
  • International travel, if applicable, is arranged and paid for by the project;
  • All experts are supported by the EG team throughout the different stages of assignment and deployment.
