WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

In 2017, TNC and partners assessed the role nature plays to mitigate climate change through 20 land use management practices (conserving/ managing/restoring, forests/wetlands/agriculture/grasslands), called Natural Climate Solutions -NCS- that could globally contribute to up to a third of the needed climate mitigation needed to avoid an increase of 2°C of global temperatures.  The Mexico NCS Specialist develops, manages and advances conservation programs, plans and methods for large-scale geographic areas.  They will support TNC Mexico Nature based Solution team assessing different approaches that could contribute to implement NCS at scale including but not limited to project based (voluntary or compliance), jurisdictional initiatives (such as LEAF or similar), low carbon policies, and value chain decarbonization (zero deforestation commodities commitments).  Although climate benefit is the primary goal to implement NCS, the identification of co-benefits that contributes to rural development, and biodiversity conservation are key to ensure synergies with other conservation strategies.  They are the principal technical contact to local communities where TNC implement NCS, as well as government agencies, other conservation organizations, foundations and the academic community in the TNC Mexico Iconic Places (Yucatan Peninsula, Chiapas & Gulf of California). They develop and implement conservation strategies in coordination with iconic places teams, employ a full range of climate mitigation tools to tackle GHG emission drivers and implements a variety of strategies to secure public and private support for TNC NCS priorities.  They remove barriers, coordinate community support, and proposes complex and innovative solutions with government agencies and landowners to conserve and protect natural communities
