The Director is responsible for leading the direction and strategy for water supply and support delivery of priority cross government initiatives. This includes strategic oversight of State owned water entities set the framework for the States’ pricing of bulk water and irrigation customers and provide strategic and economic advice on whole of government policy initiatives.

Key Duties and Accountabilities
• Provide high level strategic advice and analysis to the Minister, Director-General, Deputy Director-General and Executive Director on water market developments and opportunities impacting the sector.

• Lead a team of economists and policy officers undertaking analysis and providing specialist economic and commercial advice on water regulation, pricing, water infrastructure proposals and policy development, exercising judgement to effectively manage competing priorities.

• Advise the Government on, and set the pricing framework for, bulk water urban and irrigation customers.

• Provide governance oversight of the state owned water entities – manage the day-to-day interactions with the water entities by providing analysis and advice to both the department/Minister and the entities on a range of strategic, governance, policy and legislative issues relating to the entities.

• Support the delivery of government priority initiatives, including coordinating the Department’s input and responses to whole of Government issues.

• Prepare a broad range of documents, including, but not limited to, briefing notes, presentations, speeches, publications, correspondence and Cabinet or CBRC submissions.

• Develop and maintain effective relationships, and work collaboratively, and negotiate extensively, with colleagues, including consulting with departmental staff, other government departments and water entity representatives on a range of issues to achieve outcomes that meet the requirements of the department and Minister.

• Lead a high performing and financially sustainable workforce that demonstrates the values of the Public Service and the principles of the Department.
